Alamo Placita

the Janssen Hell Strip Garden

Posted in

I live on a short city lot on a corner. My husband planted an apple tree in our backyard and three years ago it shaded the backyard so much that growing vegetables back there was no longer viable. I moved the vegetable garden to the parking strip. This year I have fourteen tomato plants (all heirlooms), basil, radishes, mesclun and frisee, parsnips, tomatillos, four kinds of peppers, zucchini and patty pan squash, watermelons, pumpkins, cucumbers, cantaloupes and eggplants - purple lao and red. My garden is organic.

The interaction with people walking by and the harvest, of course!
