Our garden project began two years ago when we moved out of the foothills to Lakewood. The first community garden starting under the non-profit called Harvest Mountain began in January 2010. The first vision meeting was held on Feb 7th. All details of that meeting can be seen on Meetup site – Wheat Ridge Community Garden or blog site www.wheatridgecommunitygarden.blogspot.com .
The land for this first community garden is a land share property. The owners are Trish and Mike Tilley of 4322 Xenon Street Wheat Ridge CO. It is a large two-part parcel with agricultural zoning and a ditch with free water flowing from mountains March through Fall. We will grow organically. We will abide by all known standards established by the Department of Agriculture. We need community and local business support to finance some basic needs for a new community garden.
We will host regular open meeting to educate people on all aspects of organic growing. We will work with Live Well Wheat ridge, Denver Urban Gardens, Golden Community Garden and the entire network of Front Range citizens involved in this grassroots movement for local food and clean food for citizens. Pot lucks with veggies we grow of course. We will donate veggies to the poor and work with local schools to educate children and youth on wellness eating and organic foods for life.

What is your favorite part about gardening?:
Meeting new people who want to learn more about organic growing is great. Helping Jefferson County and Colorado exponentially produce a much greater amount of local and organic veggies, fruits, grains and meats. Learn to process excess foods. Grow in greenhouses year round. Have one greenhouse with tilapia aqua ponic capacity. We need a strategic plan as a state and metro Denver area to grow, grow, grow together.
