Dig It at TAXI is a partnership with Blue and Yellow Logic, Fuel Cafe and TAXI. The foods produced in 2009 will be used at Fuel Cafe. Since we are lcoated on a brownfield site, we have planted the vegetables, fruit, and herbs in raised beds but are also doing soil remediateion by growing mushrooms. We are teaching the emerging green workforce and our communities how to grow their own food so that they can have healthy and sutainable eating habits even when there is not a good place to buy produce in their neighborhoods. This summer, we will have young mothers working in the garden as part of the Summer Youth Employment Program run through the Office of Economic Development. This way they will learn how to use their human energy to to nourish their families and communities. We are looking to use our ever expanding garden as a teaching tool moving into the winter as well.
