The Perry Garden

A perfect sized garden for a family of three! We grow veggies, herbs and flowers in the garden as well as in pots around the yard. Hopefully one day soon we will have chickens and possibly two goats.

What is your favorite part about gardening?:

Our favorite part of gardening is the satisfaction of reaping our bounty. We love to be outdoors and playing in our dirt! Last year was our first attempt at a garden here in Denver and we can't wait to get started on our 2010 planting!

A very small private garden located in Lousiville, CO. Measuring roughly 9'x8' I am currently over-wintering carrots, spinach, and garlic. When the weather warms I will be growing peas, various greens including lettuce, more carrots, more spinach, camomile, rhubarb, strawberries, flowers, herbs, and possibly corn. Currenlty I am taking a Master Gardener course and I hope to use the knowledge I am gaining to increase the output of my garden.

What is your favorite part about gardening?:

Meeting new people who want to learn more about organic growing is great. Helping Jefferson County and Colorado exponentially produce a much greater amount of local and organic veggies, fruits, grains and meats. Learn to process excess foods. Grow in greenhouses year round. Have one greenhouse with tilapia aqua ponic capacity. We need a strategic plan as a state and metro Denver area to grow, grow, grow together.

Miscl. yard areas for fruits, vegetables and herbs. Earth boxes, containers of different types. Changes every year. Everything from 8' x 10' green house to raised bed in driveway. Have an undeveloped site of 9.350 sq. ft. that I will be developing for food production. Many things up in the air regarding the use, with the primary thrust at this point of putting in a prototype PV electric solar greenhouse for year round production. Irrigation water right may or may not be available.

Just moved in January 2010, but are super excited to create an edible landscape of both perennials and annuals. We hope to apply for a Spring street tree in the coming weeks. Right now, we're working on digging out sunken beds and are elated about building soil using alpaca manure & sheet mulching. Our excellent sunny southern exposure will hopefully bring a bountiful harvest. =D

Ridgway Community Garden completes its second year this autumn. Located in downtown Ridgway on land donated by local property owner Liza & John Ortman,the garden is open to all community members; children of all ages and folks with special needs.We are under a 501(c)3 umbrella, and all donations are tax deductible.

This autumn, I'll have just over 800 sq ft under "glass". I'm using a SHCS and hope to report on how well it works. Other Colorado residences have had excellent results! We plan to have tomatoes, lettuce, arugula, peppers, cucumbers and other edibles. I would like to add some chickens and fur rabbits in the near future.
